The Lady Hawks defeated Lewis University 4-0 on Sunday and advance to the semi-finals of the GLVC Tournament against Truman State On Friday in Kansas City
On Sunday, November 1st, both Quincy University soccer programs posted wins in the quarterfinals of the GLVC tournament. Both teams were seeded third respectively and were able to host the first round of the tournament.
The Lady Hawks began the day with a dominating 4-0 over the Lewis Flyers. The Lady Hawks scored two goals in each half for the win, highlighted by two goals by freshman Abby Pulliam. Sophomore Mackenzie Rief and Junior Gabby Herrick both added goals.
The Lady Hawks return to action this Friday, November 6th against Truman State in Kansas City, Mo at Rockhurst University. Rockhurst is the overall #1 seed and is hosting the semi-finals and finals of the GLVC Tournament.
The Lady Hawks just lost to Truman State 2-0 on October 28th. Losing to them just one week ago does not change the game plan. “I think it is going to be a totally different game,” said sophomore Allsion Birke. “We have momentum and we are hungry to get the win and advance further.
Following the women’s game was the men’s turn. The Hawks hosted Bellarmine and defeating them 3-1. This is the 6th consecutive year the Hawks have advanced to the semi-finals of the GLVC Tournament, the longest such streak in the conference.
In the 14th minute, junior Taylor Reis left the game with a leg injury. This opened the gate for freshman Eddie Plesha. His fancy footwork and speed was too much for the Bellarmine defense as he scored twice on Sunday. Redshirt Freshman Kyle Fraser added the other goal.
The Hawks will play the University of Indianapolis on Friday. The Hawks won the regular season battle, 3-2 in overtime when Reis scored the golden goal. The Greyhounds denied the Hawks of the GLVC Championship last year as they defeated the Hawks 3-1 in the Championship Game at Legends Stadium
With the loss of Reis, it is going to be a tough task for the Hawks, but they are up for the challenge. “Losing Taylor is rough, but we have unfinished business and we have to move forward,” said junior Nate Griffin.
