Decorating rooms in QU

Decorating dorm rooms is something that is key for every college student because it is where they spend most of their time. A lot of students have a hard time finding inspiration in what to do for their dorm room.

Students tend to follow trends or simply bring stuff that they like from home to college, the decoration is going to depend on their personal style and what they like to have in their rooms.

“ I had a hard time figuring out what I wanted to do with my rooms this year since I am a resident assistant. I wanted to create a space where they would feel safe in case they wanted to talk. My room is simple in terms of decorations. I just have lights and a chair so my residents can come in but I think it is cozy and comforting and that is what I wanted to do and I am really happy with the result,” Alyssa Vasquez said.

Since freshmen do not really know what they want to do with their rooms and what to bring there is a pattern of bringing more stuff than they actually need.

It is important to know what you want to do with your dorm room and for this, you may need to talk to some upperclassmen so it is easier for freshmen to know what to bring and what not to bring.

Getting an unknown roommate is something freshmen seemed to get stressed about because they could not figure out what type of aesthetic they want to do for their room or what to buy to make it look nicer.

“I met my roommate before I came here so I started getting to know her before the start of the school year. It was tricky for us to decide what we wanted to do with the room but we could figure it out and now I have a room that I like. What I would recommend people to do about this is just trying to reach out to their roommates so they can talk about what they want to do,” Gabriella Kempf said.

Personalities are going to be reflected in your room, some students like to go on Pinterest and get some inspiration in what they want their aesthetic to look like.

Students like to reflect on how they feel in their rooms because it is the only space they have for themselves so they like to make it for them and have a safe space for them.

“I love decorating and fashion. Having a space that felt like my own and I could reflect my style was really important to do, my room is definitely the place where I like to be the most, I spend a lot of time figuring out what I wanted my room like and I went to a different place so find unique pieces of art to go with it,” Brianna Haith said.
