The pros of technology use on campus

Technology affects the way people communicate, learn and think. It helps society and dictates how people interact with each other on a daily basis. Technology plays an important role in the world today. Almost everything revolves around technology as the technological advances are what keeps individuals on their toes. Computers and cell phones are the most used electronics by an individual. The Brenner Library on campus is the most peaceful place to get work done.

One aspect of technology that has had a huge impact on society is the way people learn. Learning has become much more interactive and collaborative, that helps people interact better with the material they are learning and may struggle with. The J. Kenneth Nesbit Student Success Center is another facility on campus where students can get together and work on group projects and have access to computers.

Without the internet, students would have a lot of trouble completing their work. The web allows students to take quizzes and exams which makes it easier for instructors to grade.

Another way that technology has impacted society is the way it allows individuals to communicate, by talking and interacting with each other around the world. Technology has introduced a ton of new methods of electronic communication.

For example, someone can email their instructor when they may have questions, or even take a few minutes out of their day to set up a video conference on zoom.

“Taking a religion course here was a little challenging for me because we would use different books that we had to study out of and do discussions from before talking about them in class. I would always email my instructor when I had questions but he give me the rundown on what chapters meant over zoom that allowed me to have a better understanding of the class,” Bianca Johnson said.

There are a bunch of innovative apps on smart phones that allows people to monitor their weight, how many calories they consume, heart rate, and other health traits at any time of the day. There are changes in health care that add benefits for the elderly and hospitals using advanced technology in their operating rooms.

However, some people may not prefer mobile communication as it can negatively affect them when it comes to being social and making face-to-face contacts. Mobile technology can reduce communication and relationships between people. There is less personal time, in which you realize that you don’t have enough time for yourself because you are still in contact with someone. Plus, it can distract you from doing your schoolwork.

“Using electronics has always been beneficial to me since I was a kid. I got my first phone when I was 12 years old and that has always been my way of interacting with someone. Before then, I would talk to my friends over the house phone or use the desktop computer to access social media and message them on there. Now, since I’m in college, the only time I’m really in front of a computer is when I have to do an assignment. I’m able to text, email, call, and facetime/zoom from my cellphone,” Paul Sullivan said.

In conclusion, all of these factors have an impact on the way humans communicate today. Without technological advances, the way of life would not be so confusing. Technology can definitely be considered as one of the greatest inventions ever.
