Ready to graduate? Here’s what you need to know
Every semester, there are a handful of college students who eagerly anticipate the end of the semester. For some, in the short amount of time that they have left, this time allows them to take in the last moments they have left on campus. Partying, spending time with friends, enjoying school functions, and all sorts of other activities that happen in the college atmosphere can be exciting especially when the moment will soon no longer be a moment, but a memory. However, in the midst of enjoying the last bit of freedom before having to embark on the most challenging journey called “life,” graduating seniors need to make sure that their exit is uninterrupted.
For those seniors graduating from QU here are a few things you should know:
The university has a Commencement Committee which is comprised of people from Academic Affairs, the President’s Office, the Registrar’s Office, Community Relations, Mission & Ministry, facilities, the bookstore, and a representative from BRCNHS. These departments are responsible for conducting the graduation ceremony each year.
Q: How many credits are required for a senior to graduate?
A: Quincy University undergraduate degrees require a minimum of 120 semester hours, however, there are specific requirements that must be met in addition to the minimum credit hour requirements.
Q: What are the steps a senior has to take in order to walk on graduation day?
A: Apply for graduation (the application is on the my.quincy.edu portal under the student tab and student forms. The application will ensure that the university knows your intentions of graduating and whether or not you plan to participate in a commencement ceremony. Most undergraduate students who will be completing their degrees have already received a final degree audit from the Registrar’s Office with a reminder to apply for graduation. If a student has questions about whether they are eligible to graduate this May, they should contact their Academic Advisor or the Registrar’s Office.
Q: How long do transcripts take to be sent to a student?
A: Transcripts must be requested via the transcript request form available in the Registrar’s Office or on the QU website. Once orders are received by the Registrar’s Office, there is a 3-5 business day processing time (depending on how many orders have been received during a given day/date range).
Q: How long do diplomas take to be sent to students?
A: Diplomas are typically processed and mailed 6-8 weeks after commencement.
Q: Do seniors have to have all credits finished in order to walk?
A: Students can have up to two courses remaining (not including student teaching) and still walk in the May commencement ceremony.
Q: Where can students purchase cap and gowns?
A: When a student applies for graduation, the application includes a height and weight requirement. This height and weight information is used by the bookstore to order the correct size cap and gown for each student. The caps and gowns are included in the graduation fee.
For any other questions, be sure to look in the academic catalog located on quincy.edu.
Commencement is Saturday, May 14.
