Long, abandoned hallways contribute to haunting rumors
Quincy University is a college that has been around for hundreds of years. This storied past has led to the rumors that buildings on campus may be haunted. Whether you believe it or not the rumors and stories are always fun around this spooky season.
Francis is a main building in keeping these rumors alive with the dim lighting in the basement and the fifth floor which is kept locked up. The many windows lit up at night do not help the look of Francis. The fifth floor is where most rumors started, as freshmen might not even know about it since the elevator only goes to the fourth.
The top floor is rumored to be haunted because behind the locked door is a chair that is said to have been used for exorcisms. The truth behind these claims is uncertain but active imaginations have kept it a truth for Francis Hall.
Many faculty and staff have their share of ghost stories.
“It was one day, and I was by the elevator from the chapel, and I had went off and someone said to me, aren’t you forgetting something? It was early in the morning, and I was probably half asleep, but I said ‘well thank you’, but nobody was there,” Kathy Snow, custodian, said.
While Francis is a big part of a suspected haunted campus, going north is also said to house ghosts. While North Campus might not have the stories that Main Campus does the look and layouts of the building contribute to the rumors.

North Campus has a lot of long hallways and dark rooms so that combination will make it seem like a building may be haunted. Going there at night will only increase these feeling as the buildings are empty then.
“I go to North Campus a lot to get work done, and it definitely is not the most fun thing to do. It is more of a get there and work quickly thing since you know you are pretty much there alone and your mind will want to play tricks on you,” Mason Washington said.
Whether you believe in ghost or the stories or not, the campus can have that feeling and the spooky season of Halloween only increases that feeling. While it may be hard to verify the rumors or prove that ghosts exist, it is fun to pass those rumors down from class to class.
