Get to Know: Kortarius Finley who makes the most out of limited space
At Quincy University, residence halls are more than just a place to crash after class, they’re an extension of the student experience. For Kortarius Finley, director of housing operations & residence life, they’re a big part of the university.
Finley took an active, student-focused approach to managing QU’s housing system. From residence hall assignments to helping maintain cleanliness policies, he’s played a major role in shaping life outside the classroom especially as the university faces rising enrollment.
In 2024, Finley lead a major housing reorganization to help with a large freshman class. Padua Hall, once reserved for upperclassmen, was reassigned as the freshmen male dorm, while Helein Hall was transitioned to upperclassmen housing. The decision wasn’t just logistical, it reflected a growing need to make the most of limited space.
Student reactions to his leadership have been mixed but many recognize the structure he’s brought to campus housing. One Padua resident said things have definitely shifted since Finley took the lead.
That enforcement is part of Finley’s broader push for accountability. In spring 2023, students living in Padua received notices about fines for excessive mess or damage in common areas a move aimed at promoting responsibility and reducing repair costs.

Under Finley’s direction, the housing office also updated move out procedures. In 2023 the students were given a checklist of expectations for cleaning, returning keys, and resetting furniture. Part of an effort to make moving out a lot smoother and avoid surprising charges.
Of course, the job isn’t without challenges. Students have raised concerns about things like room overcrowding and occasional pest issues. Still, Finley remains focused on improving the campus living experience with the tools and budget available.
He makes a point of staying in touch with students and their families, helping them navigate housing questions and concerns throughout the year. As Quincy University continues adjusting to enrollment growth and facility demands, Finley’s role remains central to the student experience turning residence halls into something more than just a place to sleep, but a meaningful part of campus life.
