Heather (Brown) Ford: Radio Personality and Program Director

This is a picture of a woman.

What’s challenging/interesting/rewarding about my current job?

Music has always been a huge part of my life and to be able to play a role in the Rock music industry is a dream come true.  I am one of the few female Program Directors for a Rock station and take immense pride in helping show females that they can achieve the same status against the stereotypical roles in the industry.  I was able to get KZZK as a Billboard Reporter which means we help influence the current charts, a big deal for a small station.  I have also been able to forge friendships with various artists and gotten international recognition for interviews helping grow our streaming audience.   The most challenging aspect is keeping on top of the music trends and being on-air 6 hours a day.

How do I use various communication proficiencies in my work?

I use every aspect and form of communications in my job.

What surprised me about my career?

Becoming friends with artists that I idolize, it’s been amazing and humbling.

Here’s my number one piece of advice for Communication undergrads:

NEVER STOP LEARNING.  If someone wants to teach you how to do an aspect of your industry, DO IT!  If you see seminars, classes, online forums read up.

Any other insight into life after graduation?
