Lady Hawks Win Two Matches in Iowa

The Quincy University women’s tennis team returned to their winning ways this Saturday (Feb. 27) with a pair of wins in Cedar Rapids, Iowa against Webster University and the host, Coe College. QU dropped just one doubles match and three singles matches in the two duals today. The Lady Hawks earned an 8-1 win over Webster at 1 p.m. They followed immediately with a 6-3 win over Coe at 5 p.m.

Amy Kuhle and Anna Konczak started doubles play with an 8-0 win in third doubles against Webster (2-4). Anna Morrissey and Morgan McGinnis followed with a close 8-6 win for Quincy (7-1). Rebecca McIsaac and Elizabeth Kuenzi won number one doubles with an 8-6 score as well to give QU a commanding lead entering singles play.

Morgan McGinnis started things off with a clean 6-0, 6-0 win at number five. Elizabeth Kuenzi clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-2 win in second singles. Anna Morrissey and Rebecca McIsaac won back-to-back 6-1, 6-1 at the four and three spots respectively. Amy Kuhle locked up a 6-3, 6-2 win at number one singles to give the Lady Hawks an 8-1 win. Jessica Bossong fell just short of the sweep with a 3-6, 6-3, 10-3 final in sixth singles.

The number three doubles match proved trouble for Quincy against Coe (8-3) right after finishing a win against Webster. Morrissey and McGinnis dropped the match 8-0. McIsaac and Kuenzi picked up their teammates with an 8-4 win at number one doubles. Kuhle and Konczak gave the Lady Hawks the edge entering singles play with an 8-5 win at number three.

Kuenzi was the first to finish in singles play with a 6-1, 6-2 win at number two. Kuhle breezed to a 6-1, 6-0 win at number one singles. Coe snagged number three singles 0-6, 6-2, 10-6 in a close match for McIsaac. Morrissey returned the favor with a tight match and won 4-6, 6-2, 10-5. McGinnis took number five singles with a 6-2, 6-0 count.

The Lady Hawks will see their next action in Florida when they travel to play in Tampa for Spring Break. The first is against Hillsborough Community College on Mar. 9 at 9 a.m. ET.
