QU Women’s Volleyball Team fundraises with Wine and Art

The Quincy University Women’s Volleyball Team hosted their annual Wine and Art event Saturday, April 9th. The event took place from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Prior to the Wine and Art event was a Lady Hawk’s intersquad scrimmage at 10 a.m. in Pepsi Arena.

The event took place in the Hall of Fame room. Tickets were sold for 40 dollars a piece with an option to purchase an ‘all you can drink’ sticker for an extra 10 dollars.

For years the Wine and Art event has been a staple fundraiser for the Hawk’s Women’s Volleyball team. The event not only brings in participants but it also consists of a silent auction with tons of donated local shop baskets.

The event revolved around sipping wine, following a instructor in painting a canvas, and letting loose. The art was led by instructor Becky Butler and the wine was provided by Wine on Broadway.

“The QU Women’s Volleyball ‘Wine and Art Night” was such a fun event. None of the friends I attended with are naturally talented artists, but we had a blast. We can’t wait to support these awesome young women at the next event,” Lauren Daniels said.

After a coaching change a couple years ago and the COVID-19 pandemic, the program has been unable to host the event. In the past the event has been a staple fundraiser for the women’s team and a beneficial way to promote their program along with connecting with alumni.

“I personally had never got to experience the event. I mean thinking about it neither has any of the team really considering the last one was like four years ago so it was good knowing what they had done in the past but it was even better getting to make it our own,” graduate assistant Erica Slinde said. “It was really just nice seeing so many people enjoying themselves and each other. It was a lot of planning and hard work so it was nice to see it come to life.”

The Women’s Volleyball Team sent out emails, letters, and made calls to alumni prior to the event to promote attendance and personally invite them. The ladies also went out into the Quincy community and encouraged public attendance.

“It was such a fun and creative event, not to mention, a great opportunity to support a wonderful group of talented young women. You can’t go wrong with bottomless wine and empty canvas! I encourage everyone looking for a fun night out, a date night out with the girls, mark your calendars for next year’s event,” Emily Cook said.
