Artificial Intelligence can be a helpful tool or an impediment

As Artificial Intelligence continues to grow in functionality, people are growing more concerned for the future. Many worry about humans being replaced at their own jobs, while others are worried about people growing into a heavy reliance on it, impeding our ability to perform basic tasks.

A.I. exists in many different programs and software, and is used for many different functions, such as creating images, solving math problems, answering questions, or writing entire essays.

“I trust A.I. to the extent to where it is an extension of my work to where it gives me a base to work from, but I will still take all of its information with a grain of salt,” James Morton, freshman, said.

Morton is a student worker with Quincy University’s IT department. Morton likes to use A.I. to help him write out general code or scripts of code, giving him a basis to work from. Morton also says he uses A.I. as a basis for his research, but he still has to fact–check all the information.

“In today’s world, with A.I. in everything including schools, if students continue to use A.I. instead of learning the usual stuff, like reading and writing, they’re going to struggle in the long run,” Evan Conover, senior, said.

There are preparations being made to integrate Artificial Intelligence into the public education sector.

A.I. is prevalent in many applications and services, including the Canva application. A.I. makes it easier to organize graphic designs for posts, or create images from five or more prompts, such as muppets in a sunny garden.

Even with growing concern with the growth of A.I., there is seemingly a mix of feelings from many people about both its benefits and its potential problems. Many people believe A.I. can be utilized for the common good, if we practice moderation and learn to fact–check all the information A.I. shares, as well make sure most of the images created by A.I. are not plagiarized.
