Move out checklist for QU students

As the Spring 2023 semester is coming to a close, it is time for students to begin to think about move out and finals.

Finals week begins May 8 and ends May 12. If students want to checkout before May 8 then they reach out their assigned resident assistant or resident director.

Residents who aren’t staying over the summer or graduating are required to complete their move-out procedure within 24 hours of their last final exam or by 12:00 p.m. on Friday, May 12.

“If you are graduating and participating in commencement, you have until 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 14 to complete your move-out.  If you are residing on campus for the summer (summer housing is completely full at this time), you will remain in your current assignment until your summer assignment is available.  For everyone else, if you have not completed your move-out by 12:00 p.m. on Friday, May 12 and you are not approved to be in the building, you will be minimally charged the $75 improper check-out fee,” Kortarius Finley said.

Finley is the Director of Residence Life at Quincy University and approves of anyone planning to stay on campus after the date of May 12.

Residents who check out with out notifying their RA/RD, lose their keys, leave personal items or trash in their room, leaves an excessively dirty room, and/or has damaged the room or furniture can and will be charged starting at $75.

“As the RD, it helps when residents schedule times with their RA before calling me. They should check out when their room is clean and completely empty, it should be the last thing they do so nothing is left behind. It makes it easier for everyone, RDs and RAs, if residents start moving out and packing sooner than later unless otherwise approved,” Timberlyn Barnett said.

Barnett is the resident director for Friars Hall and Garner Hall.

“They should make sure all furniture is back where in its original place, make sure the blinds are closed, thermostats are set to 72 (degrees), make sure your trash is taken out, and make sure that you’ve put in work orders for anything that might be damaged or broken in your room,” Alyssa Vasquez said.

Vasquez is the RA in Garner Hall on the second floor and she oversees a total of 29 women that reside in Garner Hall.

There will also be donation bins set up in the lobby of every building during move-out week. If residents have non-perishable and unopened food items, school supplies, cleaning supplies, clothing, appliances, etc. they are encouraged by Finley to donate.

Any following questions about move-out, summer housing, check out procedures can directed to Finley or any available RDs or RAs.
