Brotherhood emerges by introducing new fraternity on campus
A brand-new fraternity is launching its adventure on the Quincy University campus, creating ties of brotherhood and companionship against the backdrop of study and student life. Even though Alpha Psi Delta is still in its early stages, it is already creating waves as it works through the opportunities of its newfound existence.
Unlike other fraternities on other college campuses, Alpha Psi Delta is not a nationally known fraternity. They want to emphasize that they want to start their own legacy on campus and start a path for future Quincy University brothers wanting to join a fraternity and current male students on campus. The new fraternity house is located at 918 North 18th Street, Quincy, Illinois by the other sorority houses on campus, also know as Greek Row on campus.
“Our Free Life program at QU is growing quickly and we’re excited that students are eager to establish new chapters. It’s always important for students to find ways to become involved that are outside of where they’d typically meet friends in their major or athletic team and Greek Life is that perfect opportunity. The young men of Alpha Psi Delta will be officially established this spring and are excited to contribute to campus life through philanthropy, social events and participation in students life programming,” Diane Shoemaker, student engagement, said.

The purpose of this fraternity is to involve more male students in student life; and to bring new attention to Quincy University. Alpha Psi Delta’s mission is to connect a band of brothers who will be available to each other for a lifetime. They intend to leave a positive impact on the university and to bring pride in those called alumni and current students.
Even though the fraternity has not quite been established yet doesn’t mean members haven’t been working on their goals and hopes for this Alpha Psi Delta’s future. One of their main philanthropy projects is to help out local farmers by helping them fundraise for their farms. Members have also already put together some ideals, values and virtues for the fraternity. Friendship/brotherhood, leadership, and moral standards are their top three that are going to be expressed and spread around campus. The last four include social responsibility, professionalism, respect, and loyalty. They also came up with four goals they would like to share as well that include community, campus life, and Greek life.
- Having the platform to give back to the community
- Encourage more males to be more active on campus, and in Greek life
- Growing the presence of Greek Life
- Connecting men with friendships not included within their respective sport
Two of the members of Alpha Psi Delta, Tanner Freeman and Chase Mackey are looking forward to the new fraternity on campus.
“I am excited for all the opportunities that come with the fraternity. Whether it be on campus or when we’re doing our philanthropy work we’ll be making a lot of connections through out the community. I also think that the events we would like to do will also be really enjoyed by students and will help add to their experience at QU,” Mackey said.
Freeman and Mackey also play on the football team at Quincy University.
“I am very excited and ready to start the fraternity. I can’t really much past that unfortunately because we aren’t completely established yet,” Freeman said.
Alpha Psi Delta will symbolize the strength of community, the ability to work together, and a legacy of brothers at Quincy University. They look forward to the next chapter of college life, which will be full of fresh starts, adventures. They can’t wait to tell, and the hope of a more exciting student life, as they start this new and rising fraternity on campus.
