Did you know about the DQ podcast on campus?
There’s a new podcast at Quincy University. The DQ is a podcast started by Carter Lenzen and MyKel Linear, to give insight on what it really takes to be a college athlete. The podcast is to give a platform for athletes who want their story to be heard. They are just five episodes in, but are gaining a lot of attention from it.
“We wanted athletes to have a platform to tell their story and give their insight to the college game. We also gave them an opportunity to talk and open up about their mental health because that’s something that’s not talked about a lot in the college aspect. Balancing classes practices and workouts are a hard part of the college sport and we want kids who want to play at the college level to understand that,” Carter Lenzen said.
The idea of the podcast came from both of them having a conversation in a class. They both talked about it and have been trying to plan out the DQ podcast since September. They finally got the podcast at the start of the second semester working for a network out of St. Louis Missouri called The Lions Den Network.
Since the start of the podcast they have had two football players, a women’s basketball player and the creative media coordinator for the football team give their backstories and insider information about being around the college game. They plan to have more people, not just football players.
“I enjoyed being on the podcast and telling my side of playing football at Quincy University. It felt good to talk about the good times, and the struggles of being a student athlete and I hope that it shows other athletes that you can talk about mental health around the game,” Lucus Sartori said.
There are four episodes out right now. Starting with their own story, where they told their background of how they ended up in Quincy and their struggles from their freshman year.

They then moved to Nathan Smith and Lucus Sartori after those two came on and women’s basketball player Mariann Blass joined to talk about their season. Lastly, Jeb Jarman told the story of being the creative media creator.
Next episode joining the podcast will be Katalina Lopez and Demari Wilson as of right now the plan is to continue with student athletes at Quincy University.
“Eventually, we want to start calling other college athletes that we are close with. I know MyKel has a couple people he would like to call in because he has some friends that play college sports, but right now we’re not doing that till we get to episode 10,” Lenzen said.
The DQ podcast can be found on The Lions Den Podcast Network. All episodes are around an hour long.
