Quincy University has added new ways for students to relax, spend time with friends and have a more positive experience on campus. It all started with a simple suggestion.

Last year, Christine Tracy, EdD talked about the outdoor activities she wanted to introduce to get more students engaged in different groups and hobbies. She explained that over the summer, the university planned to add hammocks and furniture around campus to give students more places to relax and spend time outside.

Her idea has been a big hit so far.

QU student Dalia DeJesus said she comes to sit in the brand-new hammocks multiple times a week as part of her routine.

“I think it is a really good idea to have these hammocks because I get to come over here either alone or with my friends to hang out and talk, or do our homework, or even just to relax, so it’s really nice to be able to get to do that,” said DeJesus.

Finding a calm place to relax during college can be important for students who are balancing classes, homework, activities and social lives. Kensi Rosenow, has found the perfect spot in one of the new hammocks.

“Coming out here and laying in the hammocks gives me a lot of comfort and makes me feel more at home when I get to come outside and relax in the hammocks,” Rosenow said.

One set of hammocks is located outside the Friars’ Hall and the weight room. Another set is located next to the sand volleyball courts. The locations give students different options depending on where they are spending time on campus.

The hammocks are not the only new addition. Furniture has also been set up outside Willer Hall and the Student Living Center, giving students another place to sit between classes or spend time with friends. Additional seating options can be found throughout campus, making it easier for students to find a place to take a break.

The bags equipment outside Padua Hall has also been revamped with a new paint job and more seating for students to enjoy. The updates give students more opportunities to participate in outdoor activities while also creating spaces where they can socialize.

These changes are part of an effort to make campus a more welcoming and enjoyable place for students. Having areas where students can sit, relax and spend time outside can also give students a break from the busy college schedule.

For students such as DeJesus and Rosenow, the new hammocks and seating areas provide more than just a place to sit. They offer students a chance to slow down, enjoy the outdoors and spend time with friends.

As Quincy University continues to make changes around campus, students can expect to see more additions and improvements in the future. The new outdoor spaces show how a simple idea can turn into something that benefits students across campus.

With more hammocks, furniture, seating and updated outdoor equipment, Quincy University is continuing to add new items to campus and create spaces where students can relax, connect with others and enjoy their college experience.
