Quincy University’s Women’s Soccer Team returns to GLVC Tournament for first time in 5 years

For the first time in 5 years, the Quincy University women’s soccer team is headed back to the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament, marking a powerful comeback for one of QU’s most historic athletic programs.

The Lady Hawks secured their postseason spot with a 2-0 win against Missouri S&T on Sunday, October 19th, 2025. The last time Quincy reached the GLVC Tournament was the 2020-21 season, so making this achievement is a major milestone for the program.

Throughout the fall, the Lady Hawks have been led by standout performances from players like Rebecca Rheinheimer, a junior who has been awarded Offensive Player of the Week twice already this season and leads the team with 9 goals and 4 assists.

Following with senior Ella Wolfard, who has 8 goals and 4 assists. Also, the defensive consistency has anchored the back line. Their combination of the 24-year-old captain, Marina Oberschmid, and the young, talented Gracie Vierra has created a strong foundation for success.

Graduate student player Reese Wingbermuehle said reaching the GLVC Tournament means more than just extending the season.

“I feel really excited to be making the tournament this year. I feel like our team deserves it and we’ve worked really hard too. I mean we work hard at practice and now it’s our time to shine,” Wingbermuehle said.

With two games left the Lady Hawks do not know yet who they will open the tournament play against. Fans can stream their last two matches live on the GLVC Sports Network or support the team live at Legends Stadium at Quincy University.

The freshmen Gracie Vierra who is a centerback for the women’s soccer team said it is a big achievement as a young player from California and her first season for the Hawks.

“I’m really excited because it’s my first year here. It’s a really big deal. I know before we haven’t really gotten this far and I know the games are gonna be tough, but I think we’re gonna win and go all the way,” Vierra said.

Also, the experienced centerback Marina Oberschmid said it is a relief after being forced to sit out for a year during to an eligibility problem, for all the hard work to pay off and reach the tournament.

“Sitting out last year was really tough, but it motivated me to come back stronger and to finally be part of this moment and help the team and make it to the GLVC Tournament feels amazing,” Oberschmid said.

They take on Maryville University on Friday, October 31st and McKendree University on Sunday, November 2nd where senior night will be celebrated.

Securing two wins will put the Lady Hawks in a good position for top seeding for the GLVC tournament. The Hawks current record is 9-2-1 in the GLVC conference.

No matter the outcome, this season marks the beginning of a new chapter for Quincy women’s soccer, one built on resilience, teamwork, and a return to tradition.
