Advice for finding a job after college

The last year of college for most people is a crucial time. Many are looking for a job in their field and have to compete with people all across the world. The job search can be quick for some and slow to others. You really have to just keep believing and putting yourself out their for companies to see. Stay determined and one day you will find the job right for you.
One of the things that is most important is having a good resume and a nice portfolio. Many companies want to see who you are and the work that you do. Taking your key classes serious and making sure that you have the proper work to show is everything. If you don’t have the proper work this can make the job search very hard.
“The job search is fun and scary at the same time. It is pretty cool to be able to look and find jobs you are interested in but it also can be a bummer if you don’t get it. You have to keep your head up at all times and stay positive through the process. If your moving the right way and actually putting in the work to be discovered the right job will find you. Just keep working on your self personally and adding new skills to yourself that will be useful to any company hiring,” Lilnora Green, QU freshman, said.
Start accepting what comes with the job search. Don’t find yourself out here getting discouraged. Take every loss as a way that makes you get better. Keep tunnel vision where you just look for what is next. Take time out your day also to call and check for application statuses. That is a good way to keep track of the process.
Do your research also on companies you apply for make sure that they benefit you as much as you will benefit them. Life is a two way street and we are all human. The needs of one self need to be took into consideration as well.
If you do not want to work for a company being your own boss is a option as well. If you want to take the entrepreneur route just know it is a journey. Taking this route means you will have to come up with a product that stands out to people that makes them want to buy. This can be a hard process because so many people have come out with great ideas. Sometimes it’s like ‘what can I make’ that will stand out.
“The job search for me was great, I found a job in my field before I even graduated. Was able to get into marketing with the Houston rockets. Thank God for relationships and networking. Knowing the right people helped me in life a lot. All I have to do know is knock the door down and prove I belong. Life is not about what you know it is about who you know,” Debra Rayford, QU Senior, said.
