QU’s little-known class can prepare students in a big way

Quincy University has a cadaver lab that is not heard about a lot, leaving it as almost a hidden class. The school has a lot of history and secrets from its over 100 years as a college, but one is just up the road in the form of a class.

When a student comes to Quincy University, they will have to take a required science course in order to graduate, which means that they will be put in some sort of lab just allowing them to get the credits. This means that unless a student is pursuing a degree in a science field then they likely will not take another science class after that.

This means certain classes can have very little knowledge about them, such as the cadaver lab. This is a lab that provides hands on training to med students using cadavers.

What is interesting about this lab is the fact that the school hardly talks about it. Even after looking it up on the school website it is barely mentioned on there.

“I think it’s really cool that we have a cadaver lab on campus and I think it is also a little creepy because not many people know about it or know what they are used for,” Hans Wisnewski said.

Pre-med students can get a massive jump ahead by taking the class and going through the course.

Nathan Smith is looking to be a surgeon in his time after QU.

“It was an awesome class and I highly recommend it to anyone in pre-medical sciences, and even anyone can take it. The class teaches you more about anatomy than a textbook can, you learn to appreciate the complexity of the human body, as well as the sacrifice organ donors make, especially the one sitting in front of you,” Smith said.

With positive experiences such as this one it does not make sense for the school to hide it away like it does. Obviously, the student would have to be able to handle what is being taught, but other than that there is no reason for it to be limited to pre-med students.

“It’s not everyday you get to view the inside of the human body. The class puts you in an uncomfortable situation with a dead body, but the experience is truly one of a kind,” Nathan Roberts said.

The class is really able to give students a head start in the medical world with experiences from the time spend in this class.

More light needs to be brought to the “hidden” classes that Quincy University offers, since they can bring so many more experiences to students. That is what college is all about after all, trying to figure out what you would like your major to be for your career after college.
