The Colonel: NCAA Football’s new quarterback with Quincy roots

Quincy University’s NCAA Football team found a new mainstay and star at the quarterback position. Luckily for coaches, all they had to do was look across the town of Quincy to see him, that man being Bradyn Little for Quincy Senior High School. After last year’s Quarterback, Drake Davis, ran out of eligibility, the Hawks were looking for a person to step into the role, and Little did that with vengeance.

In his first two weeks wearing the brown and gold, he has passed for 488 yards, thrown for four touchdowns, and taken home the week zero GLVC offensive player of the week. After an impressive first few weeks, this took the conference by surprise, but Little has been doing things like this at QHS for a long time. While he had done big things that got national attention, he wanted to stay home to be close to family.

“Yeah, it’s really exciting. I mean, I have a lot of family and friends around the area that are able to watch me play, so it’s super exciting,” Little said.

The former Blue Devil had his name filled in the record books as he led his team deep into the Illinois state football playoffs in multiple years, as well as numerous conference championships for the town of Quincy. As he finished his Quincy Senior High career, he became one of the most decorated quarterbacks in IHSA football history. His statistics and accomplishments include:

  • Three-time IHSA All-State Selection
  • Three-time First Team Western Big 6
  • Two-time Western Big 6 conference MVP
  • Two-time “View From the West” Player of the Year
  • Two-time KHQA Offensive Player of the Year
  • Western Big 6 career passing yards record holder
  • 10,674 career passing yards (3rd in IHSA history)
  • 119 career passing touchdowns (3rd in IHSA history)
  • 10,962 career total offense yards (4th in IHSA history)
  • 700 career completions (3rd in IHSA history)
  • 4,130 passing yards in a season (5th in IHSA history)
  • 47 passing touchdowns in a season (10th in IHSA history)
  • 437 passing yards in a game and 7 passing touchdowns in a game

With all of these badges placed on his high school career, he earned the nickname of “Colonel” from his teammates. One of those teammates is Robert Gooding, a sophomore long snapper from Camp Point, Illinois, who sees Little’s greatness on and off the field.

“It’s pretty cool to see, because he was a pretty good high school player. I think he’s like third all time in passing yards, and I’d say history or something like that. So it’s cool just seeing another guy from the area just going out, balling out, giving the community something to be excited about on Friday nights, other than transitioning into a Saturday game. Seeing that all against CSP, first Thursday out here, balled out, it is great to see,”Gooding said.

As well, former QHS teammate and current QU teammate Chris Flachs has played with Little for years, and he saw this explosive play from him growing up.

“It feels pretty good. We go back to high school. He was the starting quarterback my junior year so we played each other for two years now. It feels good to be reconnected with him. I know what he brings to the table for us. He’s proven that he can win and he keeps proving that he can win. First start we saw what he could do at the Rock but hopefully he keeps improving and hopefully he helps us win a national championship,” Flachs said.

Little and the Hawks begin GLVC in conference play on September 20th at 6:30 pm when they take on the Blue Tigers of Lincoln University of Missouri in Jefferson City, Missouri, on the GLVC Sports Network.
