Inside QU’s late night campus life
Quincy University students use late-night campus resources to study, balance academics, and even grab a bite to eat after a long day.
For students like Riley Burton, his days are not always linear. As a QU men’s wrestler, he finds himself busy with study hours, practice, and class throughout the day. When night-time comes, he uses on-campus resources such as the Student Success Center, as a place to study or even just relax outside of his dorm.
“I have to finish my study hours during the week for wrestling, so I am usually down here for an hour or two every day. It’s a relaxing place to be and it keeps me from dorm rotting,” Burton said.
The SSC is open 24 hours a day for QU students, making it accessible at all times.

Another QU student, Brady Lowe, finds himself inside of the SSC during the evenings studying physics with classmates as they prepared for an upcoming test.
“I usually come to the SSC after class and practice is over. It’s just a nice place to go to study, lots of quiet spots, there’s computers to use, and even printers,” Lowe said.
The SSC located below Brenner Library, has become a popular place for students, not just for its’ availability, but also for its quiet spaces and secluded study rooms.
Brenner Library, however, also remains a popular place for students to remain after the sun goes down. The library is open until 11 p.m. on weeknights for students. Recently, the library has added more comfortable furniture, including couches and chairs. Students find the library as a comforting place for them as the library staff is always available to help and the library is another quiet place for students to resort to.

Following student’s time spent at the SSC or Brenner Library, they might find themselves traveling to The Caf for a late-night snack or meal. “Late-Night” at The Caf, is an opportunity for students to get a meal in case they missed regular dinner hours or even just a snack from the Hawks Market.
“Late-Night” hours are from 8-10 p.m. on weeknights, excluding Friday. Students can choose between a variety of meal options which are made ready to eat. Then, they can pay using their flex dollars that are included in the QU student meal plans.
If students are not looking to eat an entire meal, they also have the option to purchase just a snack from the Hawks Market, also located inside of The Caf. The market has a variety of snacks, chips, drinks, ice cream bars, etc. Students can also pay for these items using their flex dollars.

“I think Late-Night is great for students who don’t get the chance to go to dinner. I had practice in the evenings last year that could sometimes take up the entirety of the night and Late-Night gave me another option for dinner. It’s also a good place to come a hang out with friends during the evening,” Kaidence Dumas, QU student, said.
As the day comes to a close, students continue to rely on campus resources to keep up with their responsibilities. Whether it’s finishing an assignment, getting academic support or grabbing a late-night meal, these spaces help make college life a little more manageable.
