Return to normal packs homecoming schedule

After a COVID-19 season full of shutdowns and minimal events, Quincy University is opening things back up for a Homecoming weekend full of activities.

Quincy University’s Homecoming weekend will last from September 30 through October 3.

Things are not completely back to normal this fall season. This includes a still limited amount of activities. A usual highlight of the kick-off to Homecoming weekend would be the Homecoming Parade. Many alumni may not be seeing a traditional celebration weekend however QU has done its best to put on a successful Homecoming.

A tradition known to many started the Homecoming Week off right. The painting of Penny Lane look place Sunday, September 26. This activity stands as a unique and fun tradition on Quincy’s campus.

This year’s Homecoming weekend will kick off Thursday night in Friars Field. From 6-9 p.m. the QU Balloon Glow will begin the 2021 Homecoming season. Local food vendors and beautiful hot air balloons will cover the field. Balloons will shine starting at 7 and lasting an hour and a half.

After a Thursday night filled with beautiful colors, Friday morning will roll around with an early morning start at 6:30 where the balloons will finally take flight. A few hours following the balloon launch will be “QU Serves at the Abbey”, a fundraising event that directly sends all profits and proceeds to student organizations and student leadership programs.

Friday’s homecoming activities also include the Chuck French Memorial Golf Tournament for alumni, Open House and Registration, Paint Mix ‘N Mingle, Stillwell Hall Open House, Happy Hour, Quincy women’s soccer game, Kickin’ Fiesta, Quincy men’s soccer game, Homecoming Bar Crawl, and Hawk’s Late Night Gathering.

Saturday is loaded with tons of activities planned to make the Homecoming weekend a complete package experience. However, Saturday consists of the main event. The Hawk’s football team will take on Missouri S&T at 1 p.m. at QU Stadium.

Prior to the football game will be the national alumni board meeting, a meet and greet with President Brian McGee, QU women’s softball game, and of course QU Hawk Tailgating.

Following the Homecoming game, QU will hold an alumni art exhibit and reception, an alumni dinner, and Hawk’s Late Night gathering.

To conclude an eventful weekend, QU will wrap up Homecoming with an Alumni Memorial Mass, a Farewell Brunch, and both a women’s and men’s soccer game at Legends Stadium.
