The Quincy University Baseball team held its annual golf outing on October 19 at Westview Golf Course.

The event had a total of 15 teams which were made up of four people who were all looking to win the event or win one of the little competitions with in it like longest drive, closest to the pin and longest putt.

Before the event kicked off teams were given the chance to purchase team gear and hats and also join in on another game called Hawk ball where if you played with one ball the whole round you would have the chance to win a prize.

“The golf tournament was fun I’m pretty sure my team came in third or fourth place, but I did win the longest putt,” Michael Alvarez said.

Even though only one team could take home the win all teams had a fun time even though they didn’t win.

“I played with one of the other infielders David Broughton which was fun and even though we didn’t win it was a good time with our dads and I’m looking forward to it next year,” Alvarez said.

The event was a good way for the baseball team to fundraise money for their upcoming season. With the big turnout for the event, they raised a lot of money, but most people’s focus was on taking home the win.

Only one team could take home the win in the tournament but those who didn’t win cared more about the memories and experiences than not winning.

“Even though we didn’t win it was really fun, and I enjoyed competing against my buddies. The tournaments were a great experience, it had some great food and overall, just a great environment,” Lucas Booth said.

The winning team of the tournament was Connor Freeze a sophomore baseball player and his family. The Freeze family won a lot of cool things including a bunch of QU Baseball apparel and four brand new golf wedges. Winners for the longest drive, closest to the pin and longest putt were awarded with a 50-dollar gift card to the pro shop at Westview Golf Course.

With the huge turnout of the tournament, it’s safe to say that the team accomplished a few things, raising money for the team, making good memories and winning fun prizes. The event is held every year to help raise money for the team and having people compete, but the most important thing might be the experience the players have and all the memories they make.
