KC Range becomes a student hotspot as Quincy University crowds drive spring social scene and summer transition
A few minutes away from Quincy University, there is one particular off-campus location where college students are flocking to and having the best times of their lives. This place, known as the KC Range, has been established in such a short while, yet it is already very popular amongst the college students because of its unique features that make it very appealing.
While at first sight, it might seem like any other golf range facility, one will immediately see why it differs from the others. The KC Range has 30 heated hitting bays equipped with a technology called Toptracer that enables the user to trace all shots made. Students can then take part in various competitions with their peers.
Many Quincy University students find this feature very appealing.
Tanner Freeman a former QU student that lives in Quincy loves to play golf and hang out with current QU students.
“It’s just a fun place to come with friends, and you don’t have to be good at golf at all—it’s more about hanging out and having a good time,” Freeman said.
This kind of ambiance was deliberately created by the KC Range. They have music playing all throughout their facilities, with food and beverages available, encouraging patrons to interact, chat, and linger for longer periods compared to a standard driving range. The experience itself has become more important than the sport that it caters to.

Given the schedule that college students must adhere to—classes, extracurriculars, and even homework—the KC Range provides an ideal location that doesn’t require traveling to another town. It can be used for a quick break after class or a more leisurely activity in the evening.
The KC Range also anticipates a dramatic change during the summer season as the school year comes to a close. According to one of their employees, the entire atmosphere drastically shifts as soon as the students go back home or take their vacations. While the spring season primarily attracts college students, the summer season sees a variety of families, locals, and tourists flock to their facilities.
Cheryl Liebold is a manager at The KC Range and she stepped away out of a bust shift to say a quick word about the environment and what they are looking forward too.
“We definitely see a shift in the summer, and it becomes more of a destination—people come out later, stay longer, and we try to build around that, ” Liebold said.
The transition is characterized by longer hours into the night, seasonal offers, and even planning for summer activities meant to draw students and the entire community as well.
The idea is to make the KC Range just as active during the summer holidays as it is when classes are on. With that being said, the crowd attending the place may differ but the main purpose of becoming a socializing spot will be kept the same.
According to the students who are planning on spending their summer holiday in Quincy, the KC Range will serve as one of the places they would frequent. They see it as a convenient point of meeting friends since there are a lot of opportunities offered by the facility.
From intense matches to relaxed evenings with friends, the KC Range has turned from a golfing venue into the place where students can relax. Indeed, it is now considered an integral part of the university life for the students at Quincy.
